How will Cornwall beat litter?
Here are some suggestions for Clean Cornwall's strategic team:
Towards a LITTER-FREE Cornwall
We all have to share the responsibility for preventing littering.
The question is: HOW?
We suggest TWO key strategies that should be adopted throughout Cornwall.
1.
All communities can be on-board the Clean Cornwall campaign for a LITTER-FREE county.
Community groups, businesses and organizations can sign-up as Clean Cornwall partners.
Examples:
Community groups
From the playgroup and football club to the local allotment holders association; our local area can be a clean environment for us all to enjoy.
What could they do?
The football club: After every match or practice there will be no litter left behind.
Cornish Businesses
From farmers and fishermen to McDonalds and the fish ‘n chip shop; businesses can have a ‘Litter-Free’ policy for their premises and public spaces.
Businesses that promote Cornwall to the rest of the UK: From food producers and breweries to tourism; a clean county is important for Cornwall’s image and reputation.
What could they do?
Businesses that use delivery vehicles can display a LITTER-FREE sticker in every vehicle and drivers can sign a ‘clean vehicle’ pledge.
2
Alongside every Litter Picking action there will be Litter Prevention actions.
Examples:
- After a beach litter-pick there should be eye-catching flags and signs celebrating the clean beach and asking everyone to help keep the beach clean.
- Litter bins in the right places and regularly emptied.
- Education about the dangers and problems that litter causes.
How to achieve this?
Make the most of every possible opportunity!
Examples:
- A network of volunteer local litter wardens and groups, supported by Cornwall Council, for regular local activity.
- Business sponsorship for local communities
- Radio Cornwall to promote and engage with people on air.
